AMS Osram launches new OSLON UV-C 3535 LED

The OSLON UV 3535 is an innovative UV-C LED designed to meet the growing market demand for mercury-free, high-efficiency UV-C disinfection and treatment solutions. This single-chip LED emits light at a wavelength of 265nm, with an output of up to 115mW, achieving extreme sterilization effects. Combined with its excellent electro-optical conversion efficiency, this carefully optimized system-level solution is specifically designed to cater to the needs of customers in the UV-C disinfection application field. Nina Reiser, Senior Product Manager of the UV-C Product Line at ams OSRAM, stated, "The breakthroughs made by ams OSRAM in packaging design and semiconductor technology are leading the new trend of UV-C solutions, which balance efficiency, quality, and performance. The launch of the OSLON UV 3535 sets a new benchmark for the industry. At the ideal wavelength of 265nm, which is recognized as the best for killing pathogens, achieving the desired efficiency while maintaining a long lifespan and outstanding cost-effectiveness is undoubtedly a more challenging task." ‌

The OSLON UV 3535 is meticulously designed for UV-C disinfection solutions. With its exceptional performance, superb sterilization efficiency, long lifespan, and outstanding cost-effectiveness, it integrates numerous advantages, breaking industry boundaries. Its compact 3.5mm×3.5mm standard size design supports diversified compact structures and achieves high cumulative radiant flux within a wide emission angle of 120°. The significant performance improvement of the OSLON UV 3535 LED is attributed to the dual innovations in packaging design and semiconductor technology. The product adopts an open 3535 ceramic package and the latest generation of AlGaN-based flip-chip technology. Compared with traditional UV-C light sources, this flip-chip light source demonstrates more significant flexibility and diversity in wavelength selection, output power adjustment, and instant start-up functionality. ‌

The open packaging design and integrated frame technology of the OSLON UV 3535 not only enhance the efficiency of the light source but also reduce manufacturing costs. Its high-reflectivity frame design improves the coupling output efficiency and directionality of the light, enabling these products to exhibit strong performance advantages in the rapidly emerging UV-C market. UV-C LED technology is gradually changing the way we purify and disinfect air, object surfaces, and water bodies in various application scenarios. Our carefully crafted product portfolio, combining high-performance UV-C emitters, spectral sensors, and high-precision presence detection devices, ensures that UV-C light is applied only at the necessary times and locations, with precise dosages. For instance, at the entrance of a building, a UV-C LED reactor can be used to disinfect the water entering the building, and this process is entirely based on actual demand. The ability to instantly turn on/off and adjust the UV-C light source is crucial, as the reactor must be able to quickly respond to the immediate water needs of multiple users. The point light source characteristic of UV-C LEDs enables them to produce collimated beams, reducing energy loss and improving photon utilization efficiency, making them particularly suitable for air and surface treatment applications. A study conducted by the University of Liverpool effectively demonstrates that in air treatment devices, UV-C LED technology achieves the same system efficiency as traditional mercury lamps, but the required UV-C radiation dose is much lower. ‌
